As
part of the Field Recordings programme at Five Years, Proximity is a collaboration
between Shelley Parker and Paul Purgas taking the form of a live sound
performance using outputs from various microphones suspended from outside the
Five Years building alongside a series of contact mics connected to the surface
of the gallery walls. The performance will be a continuous mix of live sound
from the microphone feeds integrated with effects and signal processing
techniques in the style of a live environmental DJ set.

Keeping
with the themes of the Joseph Beuys BEUYS IS HERE exhibition, the
auditorium foyer turned into a Stockhausen space as SOUND INTERMEDIA
(aka Ian Dearden & David Sheppard) of The London Sinfonietta orchestra,
come to the Pavilion to perform Stockhausen's Pole and Gesang der JŸnglinge.
Following
this avant-garde special, NYCÕs THOMAS TRUAX will play his self-made
instruments. Truax has 3 acclaimed original albums under his belt including
'Songs From The Films Of David Lynch' which is his first all-covers album.
London
based DJ/producer Shelley Parker will also adorn the Random Fridays stage
(where ever that may be!). In one of her debut live performances, Shelley
Parker explores the space between found sound scapes, minimalistic beats and
bass driven noise.

Point Energy, Tom Belton (Sharp Nine) and Shelley Parker perform
live on Martyn Ware's 3D system
Zero
Point Energy used his old diy midi controller (MGI) which was controlling sound
in Max and also the panning and spacialisation on the surround system. He also
wore an exoskeleton developed by Sonalog which was sending midi data to any
computer which chose to log onto the wireless midi network. The idea was his
movements would also control other people's computers. Tom Belton governed the
surround direction and dynamics. Shelley Parker was doing live processing on
field recording sound samples which were then being moved around the surround
system.

Shelley
Parker, a London based artist working with sound/music/image, created Cast
– an emotive and atmospheric sound scape of field recordings and sounds
responding to the notions of myth, religion and authenticity inferred by the
casts to evoke a feeling of post-apocalyptic future in the awe-inspiring
grandeur of the V&A's Cast Courts.
An
evening that celebrated the exhibition, Cold War Modern: Design 1945-1970.
Cybersonica and Cybersalon with Class Wargames, Fashion in Film and the London
Games Fringe showcased an evening of electronic music, audiovisual performance,
accessible interactive art, screenings and classic & contemporary gaming.

MAN-MADE
is a commercial experiment that explores our relationship with commodities made
by man. Based in the West End during the four days of Frieze, MAN-MADE will
present and sell identical multiples of one object each day.
Design
historian Emily King has selected an item for sale; performance artist Oriana
Fox responds to MAN-MADE with a performance entitled Material Girl and a site
specific sound installation entitled Consume from Shelley Parker will run for
the four days. Bompas and Parr take us flavour tripping, and a free screening
of Rainer Werner Fassbinders Why Does Herr R. Run Amok observes a measured mans
alienation in middle class conformity who one day can take no more.
